Muslims & Fundamentalists

Let me state up front that I know that there are fundamentalists in every religion. All religions and cultures have their conservative elements; however, there are some that are far right of conservative and that’s what I call fundamentalists. Having visited an Islamic mosque a few days ago, my mind brought my fingers to type in this messsage today.

Many Christians are mortified to discover that the sacred Quran (chapter 4, verse 34) gives authorization for husbands to beat disobedient wives. Additional references on wife beating are found in Muhammad’s traditions (hadith), and biographical material (sira). Many people have criticized Islam because of this harsh sanction and many Muslims have written articles seeking to mollify or defend it.

This command is not only a harsh way to treat one’s wife, it portrays the degraded position of married women in Islam. urther, Amnesty International estimates that nine out of ten Pakistani wives have been beaten by their husbands. Of course when one can point to the Koran — and they do — and say, ‘This is what Allah himself says that I should do’, who is going to argue?

We are so much more civilized in America! :-(

Promise Keepers instructed men how to reverently take back the authority of their home. Baptists affirmed the command of Ephesians 5:22 that wives are to be SUBMITTED to their husbands. And otrher denominations have affirmed the Biblical authoritarian headship of the MALE since it was HE that was first created and it was FROM HIM that women with created (out of his rib).

Jesus seemed to have a better idea than Paul.
Jesus was more compassionate than Mohammed.
Jesus said follow me- but the Christian church followed Paul

While there are differences in how Muslims and Christians treat women, there’s also major differences in how Jesus treated women than either of them. The instruction from Jesus to “follow me” still needs to be operational. We’re to live by GRACE!

NOW!
