Okay, I’m stretching it a bit here but I can’t help myself. The last two commentaries had to do with spiritual nakedness: Old Testament version and New Testament realities which got me to thinking about how much and how badly we have trashed the BODY! You know, that thing that allows our soul to express itself. That thing that has a connectivity to our spirit man or consciousness (that’s not a new age term).
I’m afraid the church comes off more than prudish to the world: an adjective for excessively and easily offended by sexual matters.
As I mentioned in the two previous days, nakedness didn’t seem unseemly to God, unless I’ve missed something in the Genesis 3 story. Of course, if you are strictly, fundamentally, and seriously religious, taking a literal approach to the Bible, then one has difficulty envisoning a naked God. No disrepect intended. Chill!
We were created in His image, right? 
Well, maybe we should at least for this one time not take those parts of the Bible literally. Let’s see the word “Father” as a metaphor and not go there. Fine with me. But, just look what the church has done to the BODY!
Thanks to St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430CE), or some would say Augustine was just echoing St. Paul, we’ve been on this body, and especially female bashing binge ever since. Did Paul and Hippo man have some sort of sexual hang up? Better not go there either.
Sexuality is nasty! 
St. Augustine put all blame for the wickedness of the world on the female body. After all, wasn’t it Eve who did the deal to start with? Augustine was convinced that a female’s sexual attractiveness was the reason for the original sin and the paramount reson why women were inferior to men. Hey, hey, didn’t Adam take a bite of that apple also?
And sex was not for pleasure but for conception only! Man what a terrible mood old Augustine must have always been in.
Enough on this naked theme. If there is any nakedness, I think it’s got to be on the part of the church which too often has found itself much like the emperor in this area-with NO CLOTHES!
