No Tolerance, No Love, Just Protests

I have two Scriptures on my mind and agenda today.

I don’t know who first said it; however, the last person I remember hearing it from was Dennis Peacocke. He said that the church could do powerful things, once it got over fighting with the brothers- themselves. But, does anyone know how long that will take? Tell me not much longer please.

Martin Luther did a good thing nearly 500 years ago. He also created a monster called Protestantism. Ever since he put that hammer down, the church has split, split again, and again. It seems that no one can agree with anyone. Hey, I’m okay with that as long as we play fair and let God bud the rod on whomsoever He wants. But it seems that to be in disagreement with someone means they want to knock your pieces off the religious chess board as fast as they can.

There’s no tolerance, no love, just PROTESTS!

The real casualty is not the “brothers”, but the “Maybe-could-be-brothers”, and that’s where my two Scriptures come into today’s thought process. Colossians 4:5, 6 reminds us that we need to be careful and wise with how we relate to those that don’t know Jesus Christ. Instead of saying that people are going to hell if they don’t know Jesus, to lead with John 14:6, or any other such Scripture, just isn’t using our heads, let alone the Spirit. And then there’s the tone! Too often Christians come across as judgmental and condemning, but, only because they are!

The second verse is I Peter 3:15 which seems like a simple task unless we’ve not yet settled “in our own heart” just how we ourselves want to relate to God. That notwithstanding, whatever we do, we need to be gentle with everyone, especially those who have not come into a relationship with Jesus Christ. And above all, be respectful! Be tolerant, hide those fangs, and show some love!

Seems all too simple doesn’t it? Maybe that’s why we don’t.
