Not My God!

My Jesus and My God are loving, kind, compassionate, merciful, and a far cry from the God presented in the Old Testament. is there any wonder that Marcion thought there were actually two Gods? When we get down to it no one can define God. How could the finite explain the infinite? Worst of all for me, is how do some people define God as they do? Let me give you a couple of examples.

Who Wants Cheaper Insurance?

1-Does your God give you the parking lot space of your choice, so you won’t have to walk in the rain or heat, while not healing your husband of cancer?

2-Does your God root for your favorite baseball team leading them to victory while not healing your son of a heart disease?

3-Does your God act like a Victorian father ready to punish you- even brutally so to get you to be good?

4-Does your God expect blind obedience to the most insane of commands, which themselves even violate His known principles (can you say Abraham?).

5-Does your God hate any kind of creativity that goes outside the bounds of His pre-determined will?

6-And, is your God unable to find forgiveness for our mortal sins condemning us to eternal hell?

7-Is your God a misogynist who only created sex for procreation and not pleasure?

8-Does your God prohibit you from cutting your hair, eating shellfish or pork, and or going to church any day other than Sunday?

I hope not- though I know there are tens of millions of people whose God IS represented by those eight things above.

Sad isn’t it. :-(

  • There is just one God, friend. That is Jesus.

    “God is one” (Galatians 3:20).

“Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God is one LORD” (Deuteronomy 6:4).

“Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour” (Isaiah 43:10-11).

    ——————————————————————————–

“I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God” (Isaiah 44:6).

“Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any” (Isaiah 44:8).

“I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself” (Isaiah 44:24).

“There is none beside me. I am the LORD and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:6).

“There is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:21-22).

“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me” (Isaiah 46:9).

“I will not give my glory unto another” (Isaiah 48:11; see also Isaiah 42:8).

“O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth” (Isaiah 37:16).

  • I agree there is just ONE GOD…………and then there are MILLIONS of descriptions of WHO HE IS- and that was the point of this post: He’s not whom a lot of Christians say He is. :-)

  • Yes, but the One True God is Jesus.

“God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory” (I Timothy 3:16; see verse 15 for further confirmation that God is the subject of verse 16).

God was manifest (made visible) in flesh; God was justified (shown to be right) in the Spirit; God was seen of angels; God was believed on in the world; and God was received up into glory. How and when did all of this happen? In Jesus Christ.

  • You know. All of that is well and good but the reality IS that YOUR definition of Jesus is not the same as many other people. The point on the commentary was that each of us has to personally find our role, intimacy, and defintion of Jesus which varies from person to person.
