The church was never intended to be a vehicle to accomplish order, control, or conformity. That of course was how Constantine saw it- and wanted it, so that’s how it became. Never has God, nor His Son Jesus looked upon priests, pastors, or ministers to be enforcers of the LAW. Once again, that’s something that culture and the church have built: a house of cards on sandy soil. Give me your HEART (right relationships- orthopraxy) not your HEAD (right doctrine- orthodoxy)!
I am not advocating heretical beliefs or saying that good doctrine isn’t important, but that it’s not the primary purpose of mankind. It was the search for ORTHODOXY (right and wrong) that led Eve (who wasn’t an historical person) to eat the fruit (which wasn’t an apple) from the tree of knowledge (which was a metaphor) by the encouragement of the Serpent (a symbol of our ego and not a literal reptile).
Surely you see by that last paragraph how far OFF church teaching and doctrine has become.
If one calls themselves a Christian, then they should be followers of the one who became the Christ- Jesus! Over and over again, He kept reminding the religious leaders that “You’ve heard it said, but I say to you”. Have you read Matthew 5 recently? Over and over again Jesus proclaimed that people were healed, redeemed, saved (whatever word you want to use) not by saying right prayers or adhering to right beliefs, but by being in a right relationship with Him. Jesus never hammered people on how good their doctrine as, though His was right. All our reasoning is partial at best.
When we (anyone) presumes to know it all, know it rightly, and have the right answers, we’re in deep yogurt!
Worse yet are those who take those beliefs and beat people over the head whose beliefs differ. Can we not see this? Are we so blind, arrogant, and prideful to think that God only saves, loves, and redeems those who have the same beliefs that we do? We can’t afford any more Crusades, Inquisitions, or divisions of God’s creations. No one group has a MONOPOLY on God! And I sure don’t have all the answers: don’t be hearing that!
We’re simply called into an intimate relationship with our Creator who was most accurately DEFINED and described by Jesus, but is in no way CONFINED only to Jesus or those who call themselves Christians. Jesus is totus in nostris. We are called to something much greater than we know which is why Col. 3:3 says that we are hid in Christ. But, it’s to be our goal to search out that mysterious being that we really are and accept the honor of Prov. 25:2.
Orthopraxy my friends. Get it down and it will lead you into the right orthodoxy!

Right on.
And orthopraxy is “Love God, and love others.” Which, as I see it amounts to the same thing.
Blessings,
Kevin
