Unlike a Fox News Alerts, this is really old stuff, so don’t hyperventilate on me right now. I have no problem with Biblical stories, in fact I love to hear them. But when one assumes them to ALL be literally true. Well, what’s the point of that? And then there’s all this STUFF that we add, make believe, or have heard from some song, that we throw into a story like a pinch of salt where the recipe doesn’t call for it. Where’s we get the THREE wise men? Probably the same place we got the CAMELS in the infancy narratives- out of thin air!
Rapture News : Be Rapture Ready! Every time I write something or mention the word RAPTURE, I am sure to get some email. I know I’m a bad boy because one emailer told me “You’re a man of God and shouldn’t be buying into that nonsense”…. (of no soon-coming rapture ) as he was sure that “My lord Jesus Christ that he will return riding on a white horse and with angels singing.” Whatever!
It’s fine to disagree and I’m fine with whatever anyone believes (meaning they don’t have to agree with me). But, I have to say that the Jesus I know is SPIRIT and He ain’t riding any horse of any color, anywhere, anyway!
It’s amazing how strong the LITERAL interpretation is regarding the Bible when the FACTS or just COMMON SENSE tells us something contrary. Let me give another example- Joshua 10:12 for example.
When Joshua was written, or shall we say completed, around 400BCE, it was part of the HEXATEUCH. The belief at that time was that the earth stood still and the sun evolved around the earth. Really! They even believed the earth was flat too. Unfortunately some still do. Seriously, there is a flat-earth society. Back to the subject Ern!
Now I know God KNOWS, and so He didn’t tell Joshua any such thing. Man was writing based on what “he knew” at the time and what he thought he knew- was wrong! But, never fear, even those who PROVE A THING aren’t accepted as well.
On good scientic advice (Copernicus) Galileo proved that the earth rotated around the sun and therefore Joshua’s statement could not be true- no way, no how. The Catholic church not to be lured out of her ignorance (and all others- I’m not picking particularly on them guys) told Galileo to repent or be burned at the stake.
Where’s the love? ![]()
So, looking at his options, he proved he had some common sense to go along with his scientific mind, and he repented. Finally the Catholic church realized they had made an error- 350 years later! In 1991 the Vatican admitted that Galileo was correct and the Church and the Bible had been wrong.
Moral of the story is? It’s dangerous to be RIGHT, unless you are a right-wing fundamentalists. Seriously, the Bible is a sacred work: a sacrament that’s inspired by God- which is different than saying it was written by God. My life has been to study it deeper and more intimately with each year. By His Spirit, I think I now comprehend much more of it than I ever did. Now, I just need to BE and DEMONSTRATE the “spirit of it.”
That would be LOVE!

Humm…well I (this little wheat) does not plan on going anywhere, but staying right here and growing deeper in LOVE with God through experiencing Him in His LOVE for me NOW, so the veil may be pulled back and His LOVE, His glory will radiate out to others (may I say weeds) through my words, my actions and deeds NOW as I am learning to just BE in the NOW, resting in His liberating love, grace and mercy. That is overwhelming to me.
