Scientific theories are called “postulates“. A postulate, or axiom, indicates a statement or assumption that can be used to prove other statements or theorems. Neither axioms nor postulates can be proved (within a system) using more basic statements. However, where the student does not have the sophistication to understand a more rigorous approach, many otherwise-provable statements are accepted as postulates to allow further development of the subject. Got that?

The scientific community uses the postulate approach and it’s way past time for the religious community to do the same.

The scientific community is constantly proving itself wrong, testing its theorems and axioms, and thus progressing and providing all of humanity with increased truth and understanding. Why can’t that work in the religious communities as well? It may take scientists 25-100 years to be able to prove a postulate; however, they keep at it until the theory can be validated. There’s an inherent honesty within the scientific community that religious denominations simply don’t allow.

Religion operates so much in the esoteric and subjective realms that “truths” are harder to find. But granted that handicap, religion brings with it such a legalistic and condescending attitude(s) that to even QUESTION a law or principle is tantamount to being made the heretical poster child of the month. God is still revealing Himself to us- He is still talking!

Some of the thinking that helps keep religion locked into thousand year old paradigms are:

>Literal interpretation of the Bible only
>Fundamentalist “my way or the highway” principles
>Inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible (Bibliolatry)
>Denominational bias and prejudice
>Theism

In spite of the five points above and many others not mentioned, there’s a jail house break in the process!

Where churches and denominations will not accept candid and open discussion of sacred cow issues, people are leaving to form spiritual communities wherein any question can be asked without fear of judgment or retribution. Religious theories are still postulates until proven. It’s the TRUTH that sets us FREE, not our “ideas about the truth”. The Kingdom of God stands on the tripod of Love, Truth, and Freedom. And, freedom is beginning to see the light of day.
