I am in the midst of writing a ten part series on LRC Houston entitled “Revisiting The Bible“. I say that because I don’t want what I’m about to write to be misinterpreted. But, written propositional statements is no longer the primary way the God reveals Himself to man, nor how man comprehends God. Should it have ever been?
We have the Bible, more non-canonical books that you can shake a stick at (good ones too), creeds-R-us, and thousands of years of traditions that have been used to tell us who God IS! And for thousands of years we’ve been taught to rely upon them. Good places to start- lousy places to end.
God does not only offer “truths” about Himself!
He offers HIMSELF!
Talk about day and night concepts. We can go with “correct thinking” and who is it that decides that anyway? Does the Pope, a cardinal, your pastor, a ecumenical council, or your mama? Look out the window. See that tree, those flowers, grass? On a more grandiose scale, there’s the mountains, the oceans, and spectacular sunsets. All are God’s self disclosure.
God reveals Himself through His world-creation (Romans 1:19-20).
A woman giving birth to a child, a mother going without sleep to care for the needs of a sick child, and a father sharing one of his kidneys with a loved one, and anywhere you SEE LOVE, you see God’s self disclosure.
Where is God not?
Are you awake?

I vote for… It should never have been seen that way. No written or spoken work either past or present is “God’s revelation to us”. All these are man’s observations about their experiences with God.
Mans increasing consciousness is bringing us all there eventually.
