Slandering God’s Character?

One of my goals for 2007 is to NOT slander the name of my Jesus, my God. It seems strange in ways to say “My whatever it might be”, especailly when it comes to Jesus and or God. But, while there is but ONE GOD, we each have devised and created our own. I just hope we’re as close as we can get in our finite states to properly describing an infinite God. Is it possible at all? Here’s my thoughts.

I think Christians are the main reason there aren’t more Christians. Observed behavior is just one reason. It’s one thing to SAY that we are Christians and quite another to BE like Christ! When I was younger, BEING a “living epistle” was my greatest challenge. It’s still something that I think about and question from time to time; however, I have a more important conern these days.

Am I representing God rightly when I say something about Him?

I know that I’ve misrepresented Him in days past and I am sure I will in the future, but that’s not my desire and at least I am now conscious of the fact that God might be as upset as Satan for being blamed for things He’s not guility of doing. In giving counsel it is too easy to attribute something to God that’s really more human based in nature.

As Bob Evely said, “As the orthodox church proclaims a God of love who is willing to condemn many souls to an eternity in  hell, I had come to see that God’s character was being slandered.” That particular scenario might not fit your concerns, but what are you believing or saying that might?

Or, are you not worried about misrepresenting God Almighty?  :-)

  • It seems the church is busy trying to keep people out of hell rather than showing them the real Father and Son. Our churches try to teach us ABOUT God but a RELATIONSHIP is not developed and in this way, many churches are slandering Father God. We are told the truth will set you free. But one can know truth but if that truth is not experienced, if it is not applied in one’s life, then they do not get the glorious benefits of that truth. So, it is not that truth will set you free, but the truth you know, live by, and apply to your relationships will set you free. It seems the big picture that God is demonstrating is not “know about me” but “know Me” and in knowing Him we will come to know His ways. And we will find His love is boundless and unending and in this–we can truly worship Him. This worhsip springs from the heart–and not from obligation.
