Man continues to war and fight. We are building bigger bombs, more powerful missiles, and longer range artillery. Putting lasers in space is a priority. We even think we can somehow control nature. The seeding of hurricanes to stop them from hitting our shores is gaining fame. It seems as though our thirst for more and more power, more control is insatiable. And yet we’re walking all over the greatest power in the world – LOVE!
But this one man named Jesus showed us a power we’ve not yet fully understood. How does one lay down their life for another? How does one give up all they know for sure, can feel and touch, because of love?
What is it that causes such behavior?
True evangelism or real conversion occurs because love has been caught. The world does not and will not come to Jesus because of our sound doctrine or wise theology. No, they will come, they will believe when they see the love that we have for one another which is the only true Christ likeness.
This was the prayer of Jesus in John 17:21,23.
Depending upon how old you are or how far away from the memories of that first love, you’ll recall how totally crazy and radical you were because of love. You were on the phone for hours talking about nothing. You went out of your way, inconvenienced yourself, and sacrificed without considering costs just to be with the one you were in love with.
You were swept away by love.
