The East & The West

I’m transitioning from the last post (Nepal & Notovitch) to another And-Also things that we need to be embracing. If one is to mention the name of Buddha in the same sentence with Jesus, far right fundamentalist Christians particularly, go ballistic. Why? Each man is sacred to their part of the world: Buddha the East, Jesus, the West.

There was a person who was the first Buddha (enlightened one- fully awakened) that experiences what is called Nirvana (death to worldly passions). And all who follow and attain such are a Buddha.

There was a person who was the first Christ (Jesus) that experienced being baptized in the Spirit. And all who follow Him as He followed God, are called Christians.

There are lots, LOTS of differences. :-)
Why major on the differences?

In the Mekong Delta of Vietnam there is a monastery. It was built by a Coconut Monk who taught nonviolence and forgiveness. On the top of the hill there is a huge 50 ft tall statue of a standing Buddha. Why not, it’s Buddhist country.

Next to that statue is a 50 ft tall statue of Jesus!

Both statues have their arms around each other and they are smiling. Isn’t there a message here that is higher and more important than your denominational rules? Which message is more like Jesus? Hate filled “we’re right- you’re wrong” rhetoric, or love for everyone?

Isn’t it time that many in the Christian community became enlightened, awakened to the reality of the message of Jesus, the Christ?

What saith thou?
