I side with Emmet Fox who lost his standing with the Catholic church for among other things espousing an “original blessing“. The relic of original sin has deep roots with much of Christianity. Such biological passing of the baton of sin seems too theologically thin for me. I see the original blessing of the eternal love of the Father embedded within our hearts as a pilot light that never goes out until we are set totally aflame with the divine love.
Without our knowing it, there is this longing within all of mankind to lean to the S-n and follow it as it traverses the sky much like the sunflowers of my native Kansas do. But though we are enamored in ways we do not know, we go wildly in pursuit. Like any “first love“, we are simply not prepared for what the real relationship will entail or require.
There’s much work to be done!
And, we’re so incapable in the beginning!
We’ve not thought out all the dangers, the commitments, the sacrifices that love asks of us. So, here we are, thrown into this love affair with a God that dwells within and yet without, who can be felt and yet cannot be be touched as we’d like. We fall into periods of confusion, doubt, and frustration. Yet there is an intensity and passion within our soul that won’t leave us alone.
Church and religious teachings seem to fall so far short of the spiritual fantasies that fill our heads. Many leave the church entirely looking for more spiritual nourishment and less religious rules. We have been seduced by the taste of original blessing and nothing will satisfy the true lover within each of us but the Eternal Beloved.
As with love for and of a natural mate here on earth, there are no short cuts to the love for and of God!
The Beloved is calling!
