How many times do we have to read how legalism takes away your joy, the letter kills, the law works wrath (Rom 4:15), and the doctrines of man have no power, before we start to believe it’s true? When will we begin to believe that the doctrine of grace is where the power is?
Human legal traditions, rituals, ordinances, and all those moral codes that the religious like to heap upon our heads need to go! The true righteousness of Rom. 1:17 is the living word, which is Jesus.
It’s in man, to not be satisfied with an answer from God! 
So, we have made the “righteousness of God” into cute little phrases like, “Cleanliness is the next thing to Godliness”. “A cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind”. And to cover all the bases, “An empty desk is the sign of an empty mind”. Powerful, eh?
Let’s own up to it- we have NO righteousness!
Fallen man has no problem doing this: he knows who he is. He knows that he’s not right with the world: with God, if there be one. The problem comes from the IN crowd, the saved, and the religious. The problem is with those who wash their hands before they eat, clean the outside of the cup, and pray in sight of others. Know what I mean?
