Who hasn’t heard of Jim Jones? Most people use his name when they someone is trying to “slip them a mickey”. More than 900 people were found drugged and killed from drinking the “koolaide” of the Peoples Temple in Jonestown, Guyana. He, much like the Hispanic Jesus in Katy, think they’ve been made the incarnation of God, Jesus, Buddha, Zoroaster, Shankara, or some other mystic. Jesus was the real mystic, real Son of God, real Avatar, and real deal though. Following Him today can result in a similiar fate that his twelve disciples, apostles encountered.
Maybe we don’t physically crucify those who are very close to Him, but we surely wonder what they’ve been drinking, and from whose cup they are drinking.
My experience (not what I’ve read in a book) has shown me that far too many of those who are afraid they may be slipped a mickey (a spiked drink), have already been drugged by that opiate that Karl Marx talked about- RELIGION!
Most are not aware that the powers and principalities that they are binding and losing (but not really) are not the ones they should be paying attention to or fighting.
It seems as though we are born hynotized (early in life) by the environments from whence fate deposits us. As we go and grow through life we become mesmerized and placed in bondage by the very vehicle that has promised to deliver us- religion.
A good strategy, if a conscious one.
As Sping has sprung I’ve been taken aback by some of my weeding and gardening. There are some plants that are seemingly dead, but it’s just a few of the branches. There’s green at the base or just below ground level. Then there are other bushes, shrubs, and trees that are dead at the root!
I’m afraid religion has us trimming dead branches (religious dos and donts) when we should be practicing a Matthew 3:10 approach.
Bottom line. Are you aware of what you have been drinking as you are concerned about what you might be offered to drink?
This isn’t Mickey Mouse stuff you know.
I am quickly becoming aware of what I’ve been drinking and unfortunately it’s not been good. The scripture that comes to mind is that we’ve been led like sheep, I know I have. You’re so right, the very thing that is supposed to protect us has messed us up, confused us, seperated us and basically made us poor representatives of the gospel. It’s been so confusing, for about 18 years I’ve been building a picture of God that is so wrong. What I do know is that I also have to do some Spring cleaning and get rid of all I know to get rid of and basically start anew. I have to forget what I think I know about God and let Him start showing me who He really is. I think there are some big surprises in store for me, us.
