Ernie, the Christain spiritual guide, sometimes pastor, and all around off the wall mistaken theologian. I’ve been called that and worse which means that I am a prime example of what Walter Brueggemann called the scandal of particularity. How in the world can God use the likes of me? The answer is simple. God uses the foolish of the world to confound the wise- and so forth!
Anyone who has minimally studied the Bible understands the scandal of grace!
God uses David, an adulterer and murderer. God uses Saul-Paul ,a hater of Christians and enemy of the early church, to write the majority of the New Testament. Doesn’t seem fair does it? It especially doesn’t seem right to those who by law-keeping do all the right things (according to them). Hey, sorry Charlie but it’s God’s choice(s).
How in the world can God say to David, “I will be a father to him and he will be a son to me. Even if he does evil, I will not withdraw my favor from him” (I Sam. 18:1). What’s so hard about God loving even the worst of people? God loved and loves Hitler. Worse yet (according to some) God loves homosexuals, lebians, transvestites, and of course, adulterous heterosexuals! I know that rocks the boat of the righteous. But, God, being God, CANNOT, NOT LOVE!
That my friend is very GOOD NEWS!
God has created ALL of us and has planted a bit of the Godself, Holy Spirit, in everyone. Listen, our lovability is not based on any moral achievement on our part. If you think so your pride just proved otherwise. Meister Eckhart said it rightly, ” The love by which we think we are loving God is actually the love by which God first loved us.”
Ah, the scandal of particularity! How it messes with our meritocracy-oriented paradigms!

is 100% truth, I am a good example : -)
