The Unincarnate God Is Everywhere!

Can we agree that God is omni-present? While as a Christian, I see God most perfectly manifested in Jesus, the Christ. Jesus is the pattern, but I don’t see Jesus as the exclusive agent used by God. I take the position of Emil Brunner (1889 -1966- an eminent and highly influential Swiss theologian) who said, “If there be no knowledge of God apart from that given in the historic Jesus, how is it that we know deity when found in Him”. Ponder that one for a few moments.

Jesus is supreme among all historic figures who painted a description and revelation of God. In that I am including such greats as Ghandi, Gautama, Confucius, Mohammed, and Zoroaster. There is NONE that is bidding for the hearts of men like Jesus of Nazareth. But, while Jesus has the “pole position”, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t others in the race.

Far from it!

In so many of the non-Christian communities and traditions there are open windows and doors wherein God’s nature, will, and character can be seen and revealed. It’s in these bountiful and unique places that the grace of God has been found and embraced. The name doesn’t matter in those places. What is important is that the UNINCARNATE God who rests within and without all mankind.

The incarnate and unincarnate are the same.

The One true God has not left Himself unknown to the “others”. To those that Jesus had not reached before His time here on earth, for those that have not known or heard of Him since, and for all those who see the essense of the One to whom Jesus pointed, the unincarnate God can be found. Put another way, there is one universal (Catholic) church in so far as they have some relationship with God, however known.

I know this knocks the air out of those monarchial, exclusivist, superior class, fundamentalists. But you know, that could be good: it just might be God! :-)
