We Need A New Lens!

We’re not seeing very well these days. Is it our interpretation of what we’re looking at- looking for? Or, are we using outdated and malfunctioning lenses? We can’t properly explore life, make the journey that we need to travel without good vision. And if you’re a Christian, then how you see Jesus is the most important of all considerations.

Jesus is the heart of Christianity. We take His name. He stands in the middle of two great thoughts. Looking back is the Hebrew Old Testament. Looking forward is the Christian New Testament. Okay, so you have that much down. :-)

For all the misunderstandings of the Old Testament about the image of God, Jesus came to wipe the lens clean. As Hebrews 1 says, Jesus is the express image, the exact duplication of God, the Father. You see Jesus, you see God (John 10:30). God is NOT angry! God is LOVE!

You may not understand (who does) that Jesus is the incarnation of the second person of the Holy Trinity. And you may not theologically comprehend or accept many of today’s Christian traditions; however, if you have any basic understanding of Jesus, you have to admit that He was a remarkable person.

Jesus was more than a normal mortal!

The Gospel of John is full of metaphors that try to describe that which and He who is indescribable! He’s the door, light, way, truth, vine, good shepherd, and Logos of God! I like how Bradley Holt puts it, “Jesus is the structure of reality, the creative speech, the conversation of God, and the wisdom of God”.

Sounds like someone we should be following don’tcha think?

His command to us was not- demonstrate my doctrine, understand my power, or wash your hands before you eat. It was way too simple, and yet so, so complex. His command was FOLLOW ME! That should give us enough clue that life is a journey. But to where?

Within!

It’s the spirit within us that is our tour guide. The telescope that we’ve been looking through, out there in the heavenlies never did work! What we need is more akin to a microscope that we can look within. But even those who have already understood that, need their lenses cleaned. It seems all they can see is sin!

God only sees Jesus! And may we! :-)
