What Do We Look Like?

We’re called to be living epistles. So, what’s that mean, and more importantly, what’s that look like? I hate to admit it but I used to say “Praise God” as an asnwer to everything. Someone would say something about the weather and there it would flow, “Praise God“. Your sandwich tastes good? Well, “Praise the Lord”. Looking back I have to wonder just what kind of a “living epistle I was.

I was stopped in my tracks one day when I was talking to a person that obviously didn’t know the Lord, or minimally his use of the language hadn’t been sanctified. And the offended Christian went off on him of course. After the “attacker for Christ” had left the scene, the person turned to me and said something like this, “If I become one of them Christians like him and accept your God, does this mean that I’ll have to be like him“?

Ouch!

It caused me to look into the mirror of my own Christian behavior and wonder what stupid, dumb, goofy, and hokey religious signals I was giving off. Thankfully I didn’t adopt any of the spastics Toronto Blessing mannerisms. After a trip to Toronto, I decided I didn’t really need that. I’m glad it filled a void in so many others.

I’ve tried to take Paul’s approach (I Cor. 9:22) of being all things, so that I can befriend them. Too many Christians come off as not real. It reminds me of that R&B song, “Some people are made of plastic, some people are made of wood, some people are up to no good“. You are probably too young to remember that.

But this reminder. We’re being watched! How’s your testimony looking? :-)
