Or maybe I should ask who you gonna call- Ghostbusters? I don’t know when I first heard it but it did make a little of an impact; however, I’d had so much religious indoctrination by the time I heard it, I didn’t take it seriously. The statement went like this. Did it ever occur to YOU that nothing ever occurred to GOD? Say what? I mean like God knows it all. ALL! What I’m talking about here is OMNISCIENCE!
There are times when I am praying and I stop myself and say, “Why are you telling God this?”
Do you think there is anything that God doesn’t already know? Come on, let’s be real. And then people tell me the different ways that one needs to pray: like you need to say the right words or He might not get it. What is there that Omniscience does not cover in the “knowing” category.
So, why do we need to cry out?
Well, the only valid answer that I can truly give to that is our immaturity. That’s not a put down. We all have to BEGIN somewhere; however, “informing God” of what you want, need, or think isn’t a good place to end. At some point we need to come into the knowledge that HE KNOWS! And He’s as close to us as the breath coming out of our nostrils (if you’re breathing with your mouth closed).
I’m not saying don’t meditate, light a candle, verbalize a mantra, or have a conversation (communion) with God. By all means and frequently throughout the day. But, if your purpose is to somehow let God IN on some confession: psst, He already knows!
It’s a hard habit to break but once you “get it”, you waste a lot less time.
It’s much like one of the other “O’s” that we attribute to God, but somehow forget. I’m talking about God being OMNIPOTENT. And you can catch that commentary by CLICKING HERE!

You know, I, for once, think I knew the answer to this before I finished reading. And it wasn’t the one you put!
Yes, He already knows, but He wants to hear it from us to help us grow into the purpose, or grow up, as you said. Plus, He just likes hearing from His clidren.:):)
I agree Ernie today I was stopped by the police for driving too fast and I was worried I was going to be arrested for having an opened bottle of beer in my car, but by God’s grace the policewoman did not notice and I quickly learned my lesson about obeying the law. God knew I could not afford to be arrested before I prayed under my breath. Grace. Grace is freedom.
