Whatever Can Be Shaken!

Modern-day Christians have more idols than you can shake a stick at, and unfortunately most of them are distinguished as righteous-religious ones. What better plan for the “bad guys” than to convince the “good guys” that ALL of what they believe is honest-to-god truth. Oh yes, and to even separate people into categories of good and bad- now that’s one of the best. I was just sent an email by a friend that illustrated this so unfortunately. A megachurch (the really successful kind of a church too) canceled a memorial service for a Navy veteran 24 hours before it was to start because the deceased was gay. Officials at the nondenominational High Point Church knew that Cecil Howard Sinclair was gay when they offered to host his service, said his sister, Kathleen Wright. But after his obituary listed his life partner as on one of his survivors, she said, it was called off.” How loving, forgiving, and Christian. NOT!

Jesus would officiate it!

We’re living in a time where TRUTH is going to do it’s own dividing. As Hebrews 12:25-27 reminds us, “whatever CAN be shaken WILL”. And only that which is TRUE and GOD will remain. Much has been knocked out of me in the last three years, beginning with my reputation- for whatever that was worth! My foundations have been so, so shaken that I am seldom standing.

Maybe part of the purpose is to get us in a prone position.

I was once the head of what was called a successful church- meaning, while we differed on some minor issues, we were like mainstream church USA! Once you challenge the religious powers that be, all (proverbial) hell will seek you out. I no longer have a church, nor do I any longer pastor one. Now, I guide a community of men and women who want to be FREE enough to ask serious and difficult questions: questions that challenge our very core beliefs.

After all, it been said (I forget by whom) “An unexamined life isn’t worth living“.

That kinda indicates that we’re living an fairly impoverished life now doesn’t it!

Don’t get me wrong, we’ve got a long ways to go. I still hear a lot of groans from the audience when I touch one of those idols (long held religious beliefs from one denomination or another)- otherwise, why would we make a sound? Listen, if I GROAN from time to time, and I DO, why would I think that others wouldn’t? This is not a judgment. I don’t believe that those who don’t see things as I do, are wrong- no close-minded- stubborn- or any of those things.

I look at a groan as something falling to the ground that has been shaken!

Something that probably needed to be shaken!
