Who Told You?

Is that ever a critical question to our life or what? Who told you that you were poor, that you were unworthy, or that you were wrong? Who has told you ALL those things that you take for fact, for granted, and have formed your life around? Wasn’t one of the first questions God asked, “Who told you that you were naked”? Who indeed?

What a mind-bender when suddenly we awaken to the discovery that something that we have thought all throughout our life that was a fact, wasn’t. Now what?

Many people are even afraid to know, let along discuss the possibility that something that they hold as true and dear is just a wise tale, or maybe even a fraud. Our ego does not want to admit any weakness or challenge to it’s false supremacy. Could it be that much if not most of our suffering is because we have believed lies that we’ve been told?

Who told you that you had to keep up with the Joneses? Who told you that you needed to work 50-60 hours a week? Who told you that you had to spend $? for Christmas? Who told you that you had to buy Christmas presents for all those people that you did last week? Who told you to do all those things and others? Who told you that the Bible is infallible? Who told you that there were only sixty six books in the Bible that are inspired? Who told you that Jonah and the whale and all such stories are literal?

What is REAL? Unless we begin to challenge and question why it is that we BELIEVE what we do, we have NO FAITH. A faith untested is no faith? Maybe an in depth reading of the RED only for a season might help. Maybe a deep meditation of Matthew 5 over why Jesus kept saying many times, “You’ve heard it said, but…..”. But what? :-)

  • “Who told you it’s wrong to question what you’ve been taught in the religious institution?” Uh, let me see, that would be the instituiton. I was there for 59 years, and that’s all I ever heard.

  • I would add something else…not only who told you, but
who’s still telling you…and one keep on willing to hear,
the same stuff…Uh…I just wish, we could have a HEART-
Spirit to hear what that “Still Small Voice is saying and
sometimes or many times even shouting !
