Just when you think you have become as sweet and as nice as Jesus, you might read Matthew 23 once more. Don’t hear that I’m saying Jesus wasn’t sweet and nice; rather, hear that he was not happy with the RELIGIOUS CROWD that were peddling BS, prejudice, fear, arrogance, and self serving religiosity!
His repeated statement was- woe to the RELIGOUS (Pharisees)!
That is woe in bad news, not whoa as in slow down.
America has become the hot bed of religious showmanship. Notwithstanding the great men such as Billy Graham, nor those who honestly misinterpret the Scriptures (because we ALL do- even though fundamentalists would disagree), but to those who hold the Bible in their hand and shake it before the TV cameras while threatening hell to those who will not submit themselves to JAY-ZUS!
You know the ones I’m talking about.
The PREACHERS who teach a religion of FEAR, who describe at length the horrors of an ETERNAL HELL, who divide the world into the sheep (the good guys) and the goats (the bad guys), rail against homosexuality, pit Catholics against Protestants, and spew forth every manner of prejudicial concepts with a tone of judgment..
Are you remembering now? 
History is all too clear on how many millions have been killed over religious posturing, doctrines, and “interpretations” of the Bible. As George Ritchie wrote, “We cannot be responsible for what others do and how they live their religion, but if we claim to be followers of Jesus, the Christ, we had better stop preaching and living the Gospel (as William lake points out) according to Caiphas, and start living and preaching the Gospel according to Jesus.”
